Employee Spotlight: Seven Question with SLG Director of Closing Operations, Heath Alvarado!

Meet Heath Alvarado. He’s the Director of Closing Operations here at SLG and last month we celebrated his 17th anniversary with our team.

Describe what you do at SLG in 3 words or less.

HA: Inspire, Cultivate, Motivate

How did you discover your passion for what you do at SLG?

HA: I developed my passion for leadership and culture creation through on-the-job experiences and with the influence of significant individuals along the way who have helped mentor me. I have learned a lot over the years through my various positions and it has all helped lead me to where I am today.

Do the skills you acquired for your job trickle into other aspects of your life?

HA: Yes, I tend to be on the lookout for opportunities for improvement for all kinds of businesses that I interact with in my daily life. I am also what one might call a “fixer” and am constantly looking for solutions or opportunities for improvement just in general. 

What is something few people know about you?

 HA: I played soccer for the Olympic training team.

 

What is one thing you are learning right now or one thing you’ve learned recently?

HA: Fixing my house or decorating it. I’ve learned how to clean the AC and the furnace. Our latest project was repurposing some furniture.

Do you have any pets? If so, tell me about them. 

HA: We have 2 dogs and 1 cat. Our cat, Kitty, is the oldest of the bunch, and with her seniority comes a touch of well-earned sass. She takes it upon herself to keep the dogs in line. Winston and Chelsea make up the canine components of the household. Chelsea is our senior lady who loves nothing more than snuggles, treats, and naps in front of the fan. Winston is the puppy of the group. He is part German Shepherd, part Great Pyrenees, and all attitude. He may sound like a vicious monster if you ring the doorbell, but, much like Chelsea, all he really wants is snuggles and treats.

What energizes you at work?

HA: I gain energy from my work when I can come up with win-win scenarios in which the business and the employee both end up in positive, functional, realistic situations. I believe this is something we should all strive for more in our lives outside of work as well.
